The programme aims to produce data-analytic graduates to meet the growing demand for high-level data science skills and to prepare graduates to apply data science techniques to knowledge discovery and dissemination in organisational decision-making. It is also intended to help data analytic professionals upgrade their technical management and development skills, and to provide a solid path for students from related quantitative fields to rapidly transition to data science careers.
Program Intended Learning Outcomes:
Upon successful completion of this Programme, students should be able to:
- Apply knowledge of science and engineering appropriate to the data science discipline
- Understand theoretical foundation of contemporary techniques and apply them for managing, mining and analyzing data across multiple disciplines
- Comprehend computational tools and use data-driven thinking to discover new knowledge and to solve real-world problems with complex structures
- Recognize the need for and engage in continuous learning about emerging and innovative data science techniques and ideas
- Communicate ideas and findings in written, oral and visual forms and work in a diverse team environment
1. General Entrance Requirements
Applicants must hold a bachelor's degree or an equivalent undergraduate qualification from a recognized university.
2. English Proficiency Requirements
Applicants whose entrance qualification is obtained from an institution where the medium of instruction is not English must satisfy the following minimum English language proficiency requirement^:
- A score of 79 (for tests taken prior to 21 January 2026) or 4 (for tests taken from 21 January 2026 onwards) in the Internet-based Test of English as a Foreign Language (TOEFL)@; or
- An overall band score of 6.0 in the International English Language Testing System (IELTS)@; or
- Band 6 in the Chinese Mainland's College English Test (CET-6), with a score of 425 or above; or
- Other equivalent qualifications
@ TOEFL and IELTS scores are considered valid for two years. Applicants are required to provide their English test results obtained within the two years preceding the commencement of the University's application period, i.e. TOEFL and IELTS Tests taken on or after 30 September 2024 is acceptable for 2027 admissions. Only scores from single test attempts are accepted, and ‘TOEFL iBT Home Edition', ‘TOEFL MyBest Score’, ‘IELTS Indicator’, ‘IELTS One Skill Retake’ and ‘IELTS Online’ are not acceptable. Applicants are required to arrange with the Educational Testing Service (ETS) to send their TOEFL results directly to the University. The TOEFL institution code for City University of Hong Kong (Dongguan) is D693.
^Applicants whose first language is English, or who have obtained a bachelor's degree (or equivalent qualification) from an institution where the medium of instruction is English, may be exempted from submitting an English language test score.
^ Individual departments and programmes may stipulate a higher EPR, or equivalent acceptable qualifications, as deemed appropriate for their academic requirements.

Additional Information:
1. The above fee structure applies to both Chinese and international students.
2. Upon receiving a conditional offer (an admission offer), applicants are required to pay an initial tuition deposit of RMB 30,000, or the full tuition fee for the first academic year, by the specified deadline to confirm acceptance of the offer. The full tuition fee for the first academic year must be paid prior to enrolment.
