Program Aims and Objectives
The MSc Business Information Systems program aims to train students in the core domains of business and cutting-edge information systems that underpin the contemporary information society, so that graduates can excel in careers with professional positions that require both advanced business knowledge and IT-enabled problem-solving skills. Financial and Intelligent Technology (FIT) stream is offered to applicants with an intermediate IT/IS or Finance/Accounting knowledge. It aims to train students in the domains of intelligent business technology, particularly focusing on applications in finance. This stream is suitable for applicants who plan to work in Fintech or the finance/banking industry. As part of the joint training program collaboration with Fudan University, BIS-FIT students will spend their second year in Fudan University.
Program Intended Learning Outcomes
Upon successful completion of this Program, students should be able to:
1. Process, analyze and manage business data, information, and knowledge
2. Elaborate and address the key issues in specific business domains for IS such as marketing and finance
3. Demonstrate critical thinking abilities and communication skills in the development and management of cutting-edge information systems and technologies
4. Discover opportunities and identify competitive advantages for organizations via information systems management, planning, and strategies
5. Cope with emerging IS/IT issues such as IS risks and security in contemporary information society and Internet- enabled businesses
Recognition by CPA Australia
CPA Australia is one of the world’s largest professional accounting bodies representing more than 172,000 members working in over 100 countries and regions around the world, with more than 25,000 members working in senior leadership positions. City University of Hong Kong (Dongguan) and CPA Australia have signed an agreement granting CPA Program exemption for two courses in the MSc Business Information Systems program. Students who complete both IS6200 Blockchain Technology and Business Applications AND IS5313 Foundations of Information and Electronic Business Systems offered by CityUHK (DG) will be exempted from the “Digital Finance” Elective Subject in the CPA Program.
1. General Entrance Requirements
Applicants must hold a bachelor's degree or an equivalent undergraduate qualification from a recognized university.
2. English Proficiency Requirements
Applicants whose entrance qualification is obtained from an institution where the medium of instruction is not English must satisfy the following minimum English language proficiency requirement^:
- A score of 79 (for tests taken prior to 21 January 2026) or 4 (for tests taken from 21 January 2026 onwards) in the Internet-based Test of English as a Foreign Language (TOEFL)@; or
- An overall band score of 6.0 in the International English Language Testing System (IELTS)@; or
- Band 6 in the Chinese Mainland's College English Test (CET-6), with a score of 425 or above; or
- Other equivalent qualifications
@ TOEFL and IELTS scores are considered valid for two years. Applicants are required to provide their English test results obtained within the two years preceding the commencement of the University's application period, i.e. TOEFL and IELTS Tests taken on or after 30 September 2024 is acceptable for 2027 admissions. Only scores from single test attempts are accepted, and ‘TOEFL iBT Home Edition', ‘TOEFL MyBest Score’, ‘IELTS Indicator’, ‘IELTS One Skill Retake’ and ‘IELTS Online’ are not acceptable. Applicants are required to arrange with the Educational Testing Service (ETS) to send their TOEFL results directly to the University. The TOEFL institution code for City University of Hong Kong (Dongguan) is D693.
^Applicants whose first language is English, or who have obtained a bachelor's degree (or equivalent qualification) from an institution where the medium of instruction is English, may be exempted from submitting an English language test score.
^ Individual departments and programmes may stipulate a higher EPR, or equivalent acceptable qualifications, as deemed appropriate for their academic requirements.

Additional Information:
1. The above fee structure applies to both Chinese and international students.
2. Upon receiving a conditional offer (an admission offer), applicants are required to pay an initial tuition deposit of RMB 30,000, or the full tuition fee for the first academic year, by the specified deadline to confirm acceptance of the offer. The full tuition fee for the first academic year must be paid prior to enrolment.
